2010 Horoscope with I Ching Astrology: The Year of the Mountain

“Master movement and stilling, and you master yourself.” – Deng Ming-Dao, The Living I Ching.

Chinese New Year shares February 14th with Valentine’s Day this year.  2010 is the Year of the Mountain in 9 Star Ki, also known as I Ching Astrology. This system is based on nine year cycles, rather than the 12 animals of the Chinese Zodiac. The cycles represent the ebb and flow of energy through out the seasons. Each year is assigned its own area of the Ba-Gua. 2010 is an 8th House Year and is represented by Gen on the Ba-Gua - the area of Wisdom and Inner Life.

Reading deeper into the meaning of the Mountain in the I Ching, it symbolizes an obstruction, boundary or limit. Faced with an obstruction we can either respond with stillness or anger: solitude for spiritual growth or solitude that becomes isolation and alienation.

In mediation we sit as still as a mountain. A mountain may appear solid and unmoving, but it is moving so slowing it only gives the appearance of being fixed. The ancient masters teach us nothing in the universe is static, there is no true permanence. This is a year of stillness, not stagnation.

As the mountain represents limits there is need for limits on spiritual withdrawal – this is also a time to help those in need. The I Ching advises your energies will be best used to focus on those things within your area of responsibility and influence.

The Mountain also represents change, radical change. It can be the change that is the fruit of reflection or the change that is the fallout of anger. Bold leadership must be combined with reflection. When outer movement stops, inner movement is released. Remember the Yang and Yin of action and reflection.

Gen represents the Mountain, not a brick wall. We are called to rise up to the peak of the mountain, to grow in virtue and wisdom.

This 8th House is the hub of the wheel of the cycle of years in 2010. Each of you have individual opportunities and challenges based upon your own primary number in I Ching Astrology.  Next year, 2011, is a 9th House year which is a time of great energy and activity.

Best wishes to you in 2010!
