Intuition and Feng Shui

“Intuition isn't the enemy, but the ally, of reason.”- John Kord Lagemann

The best Feng Shui is a combination of analysis and intuition.

If you look at the center of a Ba-Gua diagram you will find the “Tai Chi” – more popularly known as the “yin-yang symbol.”  This is portrayed as two swirls wrapped around each other forming a circle. This represents the ideal balance of Yin and Yang.  Taoists believe everything in the universe is composed of qualities of yin and yang in different proportions.

Yang is described as bright, loud, hard, active, rational and masculine. Yin is dark, quiet, soft, receptive/reflective, intuitive and feminine. Feng Shui guidelines give us rational tools for analysis and explanation. The other half of Feng Shui is intuition, yours and/or your Feng Shui practitioner’s

Intuition is a kind of knowing without thinking. It is your deepest wisdom speaking to you. Some people experience this as a nudging from the Divine. Some people call it “a gut feeling.”  For some people  intuition expresses itself as an emotion, for others as a body sensation. You may experience intuition’s signals as excitement, joy, serenity, sadness or anxiety. You may experience your intuition as a subtle fluttering or tension in your stomach or chest, or a feeling of lightness or heaviness. Your intuition speaks to you when something “feels right” or, just as importantly, when something “doesn’t feel right.” Combining intuition and rational thinking can be very powerful, one fills in the gaps of the other.

Because intuition is not honored in our culture, many of us need to practice awareness of our intuitive signals.  Start with simple things. Give yourself the gift of time and patience – the more you practice, the easier it gets.

Intuition can help you in the selection and implementation of your Feng Shui cures. If you are considering a particular Feng Shui adjustment and it “feels right,” then go for it.  If you have some hesitation or confusion, then take a few minutes to check in with your deeper self – your intuition.  Picture in your mind, the desired Feng Shui change in place. Then tune into how your feel – what kind of emotions or body sensations are you aware of. Is there a lifting of your energy or a heaviness?  Does any part of your body feel tense or tight.  This is your intuition sending you a message, something your thinking mind might not be aware of.   Pay attention to this message.  Honor your deeper wisdom.

You can also use this intuitive check-in after you place a Feng Shui enhancement. If it feel good – great! If it doesn’t “feel right” – remove it. Not every Feng Shui cure is right for every person or space.

Finding the Right Place for a Treasured Object

If you have something in your home that seems lost or “doesn’t fit” – you can ask it where it wants to be.  If it is small enough to hold, you can walk around your home with it in your hands while you ask it “is this the place you need to be?”  You will get an intuitive signal – either an emotion or a body sensation – yes or no.  Take your time and your treasure will let you know where it needs to be. If no place feels right you might consider that the energy of this object does not fit the energy of your home.  Either you are on the jopurney of improving the energy of your home, or you may need to let go of this particular object.

If your treasure is too big or heavy to safely carry in your hands, then visualize it in different places in your home. Picture the different rooms and spaces in your home with your treasure there. You will get an intuitive message where this treasure is meant to be.
